Friends, Friends, Friends

Its been a few days since I've written on my blog and it's because I had a dear friend come and visit. I haven't seen them for about four years but it felt like we've never had a gap in time. As we reminisced about where everyone is that we used to hang out with it really got me thinking about friendship and how we see it as adults and as children.

I remember as a teen I felt obligated to go to every function I was invited to. Now I would never pull the let's see who has a better invite card( some people still do that as an adult) just let you yes mean yes people. I would however pull the double booking card and hit up two to three events in one night.

Now as an adult I would rather stay at home and put on a good movie or have two or three people over for dinner. The older you get the more you realize that friendships are the one thing in life that you really need to cultivate and maintain. Don't drop a friend just because he or she did something to make you mad. Now there are unforgivable actions that can be done to you and let's face it some times you need to get rid of toxic people in your life but at the end of the day its the relationships with friends that get you through life. I am truly blessed to have GREAT friends and I hope that I show you all how much you mean to me. So if you are fighting with a friend just think to yourself is it REALLY worth it and 9 times out of ten it really isn't. And that is just my thought on the matter

I like sushi, how about vue

I love living downtown everyday there seems to be a new place opening up. There is a new sushi spot called Vue that is on the corner of Central and 2nd ave S. If your ever in the St. Petersburg area you should defiantly come in and true the volcano or the vue. The saki bombs are amazing and the sakitini. And ladies every Thursday night you will receive a complimentary glass of champagne. Add all this to the ambiance and the wait staff and you will have an amazing time. And that's my thought on the matter.

Trix are for Kids and Bills are for Adults (I'll take the Trix please)

Since when did I become a grown up? There used to be a time in my life when my biggest decision was " Should I wear my pink strawberry shortcake shirt with my jelly shoes or my purple chipmunk shirt?" I STILL have to make this decision from time to time but now I have added decisions to make. Should I choose PPO or HMO, Cheap Gas or pay more to avoid auto repairs down the road, Rent or buy a home, Put money in checking or savings( this one really doesn't matter because you end up spending it no matter which account the money is in)

Granted there are some cool decisions that you can make as an adult. "Do I want wine or liquor with my dinner?" but in the long run the easy decisions are far and few. Yet, Children are in such a RUSH to grow up. They are so quick to dream about the day they can move out of their parents home and have FREEDOM! I am sorry to break this to you but there is no such word!

I think adults need to stop trying to advise their children to enjoy their childhood and just start treating them like adults. Parents are you tired of being a chauffeur and taxi? well CHARGE those kids for your service. In the real world the meter is ALWAYS running and if you have more than two friends accompany you in a car they will charge you extra! (unfair yes but hey that's the "FREEDOM" you get as an adult) Children not doing their chores (hey that's your form of work and you know what happens when adults don't work) NO MONEY!!! and with no money comes bills and possible Repossession of all of your belongings. So parents, go in their room and take out EVERYTHING!!! leave them with a blanket and box of Shells and cheese and tell them to make it last because they have a week left before their next payday.

Believe me kids if you don't want to have the "freedom" of choosing between a clean mouth or clean clothes ( Laundry detergent and toothpaste are NOT cheap!!!) then stay at home as long as you can, enjoy not having bills and help out your parents (do your chores) believe me you will have plenty of time to enjoy being a grown up but for now ENJOY YOUR TRIX. and that's my thought on the matter

Music is my life!

One thing I love more than anything in the world is music and its effect it has on people. I can remember being a young child and watching musicals with my grandmother and practicing what I saw. Why don't we burst out in song to express how we are feeling? We all do it in our head! you can't tell me that you've never been in a situation and thought " This is the perfect song for this moment"

There is a reason that movies have soundtracks, it's to evoke feeling and make you feel like you are apart of the movie. So next time you are out shopping and an annoying salesperson is to pushy belt out "BEAT IT" I guarantee you will get your point across and they will leave you alone. We have to keep the arts alive. It's a wonderful tool for artistic expression. And for all you intellectuals out there here is even more reason why music is so important http://www.edutopia.org/arts-music-curriculum-child-development. And that's my thought on the matter.

Why do parents to this to their children?

My blog is all about humor and I love people watching and yes I admit I make fun of people but I am also always the first to poke fun at myself. I was looking through pictures and I came across this little gem.....YES THIS IS ME!!! here I am in all my glory as an 11 year old. Tell me WHY...WHY would my mother not only dress me like Micheal Jackson's illigitamint child. but she also handed me a stuffed animal and PAID for these picture. Parents, is this your way of getting back at your children when they disobey? a sort of LAST LAUGH if you would. Please if you are a parent don't do this to another child they must be saved! and if you are a child please stop doing whatever it is that is causing your parents to be so upset at you that they want to get back at you this bad. That is just my thought on the matter.

I miss when TV was actually good

If I see a commercial for Jersey Shore one more time I will scream. since when is acting like a douche and sleeping around with as many people as possible considered entertainment. Even Saturday morning cartoons have been taken over by Hana Montana and other garbage. I miss watching scripted shows! when survivor came on the air I didn't know that ALL we would have available to watch is reality shows.. I can watch reality looking out my window and believe me it's more entertaining. And isn't TV supposed to help you escape reality? I really don't want to turn on my TV and look at someone as ugly as Flavor Flav trying to find love...newsflash Flav THEY LIKE YOU BECAUSE YOUR RICH!!! there is no women in the world who would kiss that without thinking there is an amazing payday at the end of all this.

Granted some of the old shows we watched back in the day were corny. I can't even watch Full House without gagging. but we did have great shows...Cosby Show, Different World, Family Matters, Fresh Prince,Boy Meets World, Doug, Thundercats, Rugrats, Snorks, Gummy Bears, 3rd Rock from the sun the list can go on and on.

I will leave you with an homage to one of my fave shows back in the day. (I've always wanted to be a doctor and I actually got a grant that would pay for my first four years of college at a big university) I would watch this show and escape. Its interesting because it was way ahead of its time the main character would blog at the end of every show. It was one of my faves and maybe its was yours. So TV execs please understand that there are consumers out here that would enjoy quality programming! I mean who wants to pay for cable when what they are showing on screen you can watch for free if you go to your local Frat house? That's just my thought on the matter.

What SHOULD make a person Attractive?

We live in a time when so much emphasis is put on how we physically look. Cosmetic surgery is a billion dollar industry and with shows like bridalplasty and celebrities plastering the cover of magazines it's no wonder people have forgotten what is important.

My aunt posted something on her facebook that really got me thinking. "When I was coming up, nobody ever wondered if they were "sexy."Every woman looked a certain way when they were dressed up. Every man, too. Haircut, shoes shined, clean shirt. Women....... Stockings, lipstick, a hint of perfume (a hint )It was about self respect....... For yourself and for others...... No cussin' fighting or talking about folks. Unheard of, and most especially not in front of kids."

It is very important to have respect and take pride in yourself before you expect anyone else too. I am so tired of seeing women dress like street walkers and getting offended when someone calls them out of their name. If your house was on fire and you see someone walking down the street in a firemen uniform you would shout out for help wouldn't you? What If they say "oh I'm sorry did you really think I was a firemen because of my outfit" WELL YES!!!! keep that in mind ladies DRESS FOR HOW YOU WANT TO BE PERCEIVED! Guys if you want to be taken seriously please PULL UP YOUR PANTS it's not attractive, no women wants you when you look like a baby who has a load in their pants.

What you are in the inside is what really matters the most. Beauty fades but ugly stays forever. Now you shouldn't go out and pick out the ugliest person just because they have a great personality I mean you have to be SOMEWHAT attracted to your partner. But it's s know fact when you have qualities like Honest,Self-Control, Mildness, Kindness, Joy, And Love your stock goes WAY UP in a attractiveness.

SO Gen Y please take note of what our elders have to say. They have been around for a while and really know what they are talking about. That's just my thought on the matter.

Creepers

We all know a person who just creeps you out, whether it's a person who keeps shaking your hand after pleasantries have been exchanged, the person who barely shakes your hand, or the person who awkwardly stares you down. What's really bad is that in the new millennium we have the wonder of facebook that allows creepers to invade your space all the time. It's really sad that we seem to feel obligated to accept a friend request from people we really don't care to converse with( no I really don't care how your facial hair you shaved off fell into the sink and formed a shape of the Mona Lisa...oh and thanks for tagging me in the pic)

We must all unite and put these creepers in their place.....the creeper list and before you say there is no such thing check the signs. Can you only see a "friend" Info page. Have they told you that they "no longer" have a wall. My friend you've been put in your place THE CREEPER LIST!

Let's Talk Shoes

A good friend of mine sent me this pic and I fell in love! What is it about shoes that makes a women go CRAZY? Could it be the fine Italian leather of a pair christian louboutins, the wonderful designs of Jimmy Choo or the affordability of Payless( that right I said payless, they are amazing and have started carrying designs from Christian Siriano)

But I believe the main reason we as women torture ourselves is for the recognition. There is nothing that can come close to the feeling you get when you've spent a long day in your heels and your taking baby steps to your car. You look up and see another women walking the same way. You see each others pain cringed face and immediately look down. You give the nod and there are no need for words. You know what that nod means....I FEEL YOU PAIN.....BUT GIRL YOUR SHOES ARE STILL FABULOUS.

Keep rocking those shoes ladies. Who needs feeling in your feet when they look good and that's my thought on the matter.

Roll your eyes at me one more time!

Is it just me or has customer service really gone down hill. I don't understand why people seem to get upset when you asked them to do things that are included in their job description? They treat you like you've invaded their home, sat on their sofa, took the remote control from them and demanded they make you a cup of coffee that was specially made in Paris so they had to fly there and retrieve it for you.

I am quite aware that there are plenty of people who think that the literal translation of customer service =Personal slave. However, there are some people that are very nice and would just like you to do the job your paid to do without attitude. I have had my share of customer service jobs and I know first hand how difficult it can be. That being said I think I have found a way to stop the rolling of the eyes, the ignoring and down right rudeness. I figured out this wonderful solution when dealing with my 13 year old sister a couple of months. I took her on a weekend trip to Naples we went shopping and had a great time. On the way back we stopped for lunch and like most 13 year olds she got and attitude because the sun was out. She proceeded to be very rude and my blood was boiling, the only way I could think of dealing with her and and getting a chance to speak was to flick her right dead in the forehead!!!! Granted this action pretty much put me on her level but I got her attention. Her face was priceless. It's was confusion and terror all in one. It was like she was thinking what could anyone do that would make a grown person so upset that the only way they know how to deal with you is to regress to being a 13 year old just to get you to listen. All I could do was give her a look like YEP, THAT JUST HAPPENED.

So the next time your getting your coffee, trying to fix your cell phone, returning clothes(that you shouldn't have bought in the first place but you could return it so what's the harm) act like a 13 year old and get one good flick In and I bet they won't role their eyes anymore. That's just my thought on the matter.
